About

My work runs on three threads: patients, teaching and technology. After qualifying and working in India, I moved to the UK for a competitive foundation post in Aberdeen that took me through neurosurgery, trauma and orthopaedics and palliative medicine, then spent a year in Glasgow as a clinical fellow in neurosurgery. I now teach medical students while studying for a PG Diploma in Health Professions Education, and build AI tools, like ConsentSim, that help them practise.

Conversational AI to Practise Procedural Consent: a pilot mixed-methods study

With Dr Ruaridh Griffin, presented at TICC 2026, Bristol.
Outstanding Contribution to Simulation

Taking consent is a critical skill, but chances to practise it are limited: standardised patients are costly and hard to schedule.

We built a conversational AI patient that students can consent at any time, anywhere, at no cost, and tested it with 42 medical students.

  • Participants42 medical students
  • ScenariosSimulated telephone consent for bronchoscopy, lumbar puncture, OGD, colonoscopy and ERCP
  • DesignPre-survey, AI simulation, post-survey, thematic analysis

76% of students felt more confident afterwards. What they valued most was psychological safety. They also asked for more emotional range, harder patients who refuse, and fewer mark-scheme prompts, which shape the next version.
